17. Galanin helps reduce locus coeruleus activity and it may help reduce anxious behaviour.

What other psychological factors associated with trauma are of relevance to delusional formation? (Charney 2004)

17. Reward Regulation: The maintenance of this system may be important in maintaining a positive outlook. VTA firing may encode reward expectations. Dopamine nerves fire more when reward is predicted; the firing is greater when the rewards are unpredicted or better than expected. There is no change when rewards fail to materialise or drop when rewards don’t come or are worse than expected. Orbitofrontal cortex respond to rewards based on different motivational values, hence some may be preferred over others. Also stress induces the CREB protein in the VTA and NA, which is followed by sensitivity to aversive stimuli and reduced sensitivity to rewards and the cAMP system is involved in learning positive and negative associations.
